Be Glamourous hair is indeed the best kind of hair used for hair extensions and they do last longer than other types, but this doesn’t mean that it will take care of itself. Since it is made of 100% human hair, Be Glamourous Hair xtensions should be given the same care and attention that you would give your natural hair for it to maintain its lustre, smoothness and overall health. With proper care you will be able to maximise your hair extensions’ lifespan.
Shampoo hair extensions after 10-20 uses (this applies for clip in extensions only, other kind of extensions that are semi permanent on your head should be washed at least once per week).
It is best to shampoo hair extensions as infrequently as it is hygienically possible. It is advisable that you only shampoo human hair extensions when it appears dull or beginning to acquire odour. This is because, unlike your natural hair, hair extensions no longer receive natural oils from the scalp, and shampooing them more than is necessary will dry them out. Gently remove tangles with your fingers. If the tangles are hard to remove, apply spray on conditioner on the hair to ease out tangles. Remove tangles from the ends and gently work your way up to avoid breakage. Use a good quality mild shampoo and conditioner that is designed for dry/damaged hair for best results. This keeps the moisture in your hair extensions. Use shampoo in moderation. Never wash your clip in hair extensions while it is attached to your head. Use cool (room temperature) water to wet the hair extensions gradually and shampoo it in a downward motion, stroking from weft to base. Never rub, scrub or twist the hairs! Your hair extensions do not receive oils from your scalp like your natural hair does. Make sure that you pamper it with a deep conditioning treatment after washing. Make sure that the hair extensions are tangle free before you let them dry. Detangle using fingers. Let the clip in hair extensions dry naturally ban laying them dry on a clean towel to save on the amount of heat exposure. Just like your Be Glamourous hair extensions, your natural hair also prefers to air-dry without the aid heat, as heat an damage cuticles. Opt out of using blow dryers as often as possible.
Use a wide tooth comb or a loop brush when combing your hair extensions.
A loop brush is especially designed for hair extensions because their bristles are looped so they do not pull on the extensions, but instead, brush all the way to the scalp gliding smoothly through hair. However, take note that it is better to de-tangle hair extensions when they are not clipped on yet. When combing/brushing, work your hair from the ends carefully moving upwards towards the weft. As with your hair extensions, brush your natural hair from ends to roots to detangle properly and prevent breakage. Brush or comb in a downwards motion once hairs are tangle free Never brush or comb your hair extensions when wet.
Be Glamourous Hair Extensions can be coloured & cut, but we highly advise against colouring/cutting them yourself unless you are a professional. We also recommend that you only darken your extensions as lightening/bleaching may damage them. But they can be bleached/lightened. Professional hairdressers are trained for this particular task and will be able to do a safer and better job. Not only will they have the skills and knowledge to apply proper techniques, they also have better hair products and equipment. You can cut or colour your hair extensions, but we strongly recommend to do it with a professional. Do not razor cut Be Glamourous Hair.
Tip: Point cutting Be Glamourous Hair keeps the ends looking the most natural. Always colour a sample section first.
It is okay (but not recommended) that you wear your clip in hair extensions while swimming, but not on a regular basis (this does not apply for semi permanent extensions). Always wash your hair extensions and your hair as soon as you can as salt water, chlorine and other chemicals or dirt can settle, take out all the moisture (especially salt water) and damage your hair cuticles therefore weakening your hair extensions and your natural hair. Do not braid or tie your hair in anyway when swimming, simply leave your hair down. If you will be under the sun, use a conditioning hair product with at least an SPF 15 to protect your hair extensions and natural hair from sun damage. When using products with UV protection, use sparingly as they may discolour hair.
Our hair extensions are 100% Remy human hair so they can be curled and straightened just like your natural hair. Like your natural hair, heat can damage your clip-in’s cuticles, so always use heat-protect products to keep your hair (natural and extensions) healthy and shiny.
Use the lowest setting when heat-styling hair. If possible, opt to use steam or dry rollers on both natural hair and hair extensions as these causes less stress to hair as compared to heat styling.
Any hair product that can be used on your natural hair can be used on your hair extensions. Opt for products that are alcohol free and those that contain conditioning properties. Use hair products sparingly to avoid product buildup.
Storing your Be Glamourous hair extensions
How you store your hair extensions will also affect its longevity. Make sure your hair extensions are tangle free and clean before you store them. Some styling products can damage, weaken, tangle, dry, attract dirt and discolour human hair if left on for too long. It is important to completely dry hair before storing. Storing wet hair will lead to the development of mould and mildew and an unpleasant odour. Store your Be Glamourous Hair in the satin bag that was send with the extensions. This bag is especially designed to prevent damage to your extensions. And it’s handy to carry your extensions while travelling.
Remember that exposure to sunlight bleaches hair. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Inside your closet or drawer is a good place.
Never sleep with your extensions clipped on (does not apply for semi permanent extensions). Not only is this uncomfortable but this can pull on your natural hairs but this can also dig on your scalp. Hairs always tangle when you sleep no matter how smooth and silky it is. It would be very difficult and damaging to your natural hairs and clip-ons if they were to get tangled. Sleeping with clip-in extensions on can cause traction alopecia. Traction alopecia is hair loss caused by the pulling of hair. It is important to take very good care not only of your hair extensions but also of your natural hair and scalp.
Store with the clips closed!!!
